Certified Family Law Specialists (CFLS)
Although any attorney may refer to him/herself as a specialist or as specializing in family law, only attorneys certified by the Board of Legal Specialization of The State Bar of California may represent themselves as a “Certified Family Law Specialist" (CFLS). To become a CFLS, an attorney must:
- Be an active member in good standing of the California Bar;
- Pass a written exam concerning the field of family law;
- Have substantial experience in the field of family law;
- Complete education requirements related to family law; and...
- Be favorably evaluated by judges and other attorneys concerning
knowledge, ability and experience in the practice of family law.
Names and addresses of all statewide CFLS's may be obtained by calling
415/241-2125 or by going to the California State Bar website at:
- Click on the 4th green button "Specialist Search"
- Scroll down and click on "Family"
- In the "Legal Specialist Search" box, select
"Family Law" & the county where you seek
an attorney, click on “submit” and a list will appear.
