Three Levels of Service are Provided
- Transfer Monitoring – useful when exchange of the child from the custodial party to the visiting party is recommended or court ordered to minimize conflict between the parties. The monitor may perform the transfer.
- Off-site Monitoring. Used for routine visitation when abduction or abuse risk is low to absent; can occur in any appropriate indoor or outdoor setting.
- On-site Monitoring – Generally used when abduction/abuse risk is medium to high; occurs at a secure facility with adequate accommodation for positive parent-child interaction. Also offered by agencies as a low cost alternative to pricier off-site visitation regardless of the risk factor
Most on-site facilities have security and separate entrances for maintaining an orderly arrival and departure for parents.
In addition to monitored visitation, some providers when suggested by the court or mediator, may offer facilitated visitation, which adds a component of parenting guidance to the monitoring. This might be used in reunification or to supplement a course of parenting being taken by the monitored parent.
Except as noted, the role of the monitor is that of a passive observer who does not participate in the visit unless requested to do so.
As a footnote you should remember that the monitor does not provide transportation except as necessary to insure the welfare of the child.
